Camtasia (formerly Camtasia Studio) is a screen capture software released by Techsmith. The user can specify an area of the screen or a window to capture, which can be set in advance before recording starts. Camtasia Studios allows users to record sound from microphones or speakers and place webcam video footage on the screen.
As of Camtasia Studio v8 for Microsoft Windows, there are two main components:
Camtasia Recorder: a separate tool for capturing sound and video on the screen
Camtasia editor: multimedia authoring tool with industry standard "timeline" interface
